Kid Tigrrr is the new solo project from singer-songwriter and visual artist Jenna Fournier, front-woman of the shoegaze hybrid Niights. Following two studio albums and four international tours to Japan, Fournier parted ways with her record label to venture into audio engineering in pursuit of experimentation with home recording and production. Her debut LP, Stoned + Animald, is an ethereal blend of art-rock, melancholy indie, and dream-pop, painting lush atmospheres around her most intimate writing to date. The album title, as Fournier explained in a recent interview on NPR, refers to being judged harshly (stoned) and thrust into survival mode (animald). In a vulnerable effort to challenge stigmas, she tackles subjects such as abuse, addiction, and mental health, pushing her horizons both conceptually and sonically.
Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins, a long-time influence of her sound, recruited Fournier to sing backup on the band's upcoming album, Aghori Mhori Mei, before releasing Stoned + Animald on vinyl through his own label, Martha’s Music. She then joined Billy Corgan and the Machines of God as a touring bassist, stating in Guitar World, "I think it’s healthy for me to sometimes step away from myself." Kid Tigrrr also finds inspiration from Grouper, Mazzy Star, My Bloody Valentine, CocoRosie, Grimes, and The Cure.
